How to solve problems

« We want problems and challenges in our lives, they’re the one opportunity we have to grow. »

You will always have problems and challenges, no matter what phase you’re in.

No matter if you’ve climbed the ladder, if you’re rich, successful or in the perfect relationship.

You actually want problems and challenges because they’re your opportunity to grow.

That is if you know how to approach them and if you’re ready to take action.

1. Focus your energy towards the solution

The more energy and time a problem gets, the bigger it becomes.

The more it expands, the higher your levels of stress.

stress = the fear of loss

the loss of your ability to contribute, to grow,

the loss of your certainty, your significance,

of someone else’s love

Stress makes you lose perspective and gives a disempowering meaning to things.

And you don’t want to feel like losing because how you feel defines how you live.

focus –> meaning –> emotions –> quality of decisions –> quality of life

2. Change your physiology

Psychological stress often comes with physical stress :

  • your breathing gets shallow

  • you hunch over

  • your body gets tense

Reduce your levels of stress by changing your physiology.

Go for a run, for a walk, dance…

Move your body !

3. When possible, solve your problems immediately

The vast majority of problems can be solved right away.

To allow valuable things to come in, free up your mental space.

Be decisive, get clear on what the problem really means.

Is it really going to matter in 5 or 10 years?

3 steps to follow :

1. make a decision

2. flood yourself with certainty

3. take insane action

4. When not possible, follow the process

  • Distinguish the real problem from the story you’ve been telling yourself.

Write it down, move it out of your mind.

Remove yourself as much as possible from the emotion attached.

  • Step out of your own situation and get clarity about what you want.

Then get laser focused on achieving that.

  • Don’t be distracted by things like assigning blame.

It depletes your energy, it takes your focus from the solution.

  • Be clear on what you’re willing and not willing to do

Would you use your money, your time, and your energy?

Would you lie, cheat, compromise your integrity?

  • Realize you’re not hopeless or alone in that.

Think of all the resources you have :

people, places, things, circumstances, collaborations,

contacts, friends, faith, valuable previous experiences…

The pathway to the best solutions in life is this :

25 % of actual physical execution of the problem

+

75% of psychology

5. Learn from your challenges

  • Learn as you go, don’t wait for your problems to be solved.

This way not only is a problem less likely to repeat itself but it can help you improve and grow :

- it can encourage you to put things in place

- it can make you more prepared

- it can get you to connect with people

- it can keep you feeling challenged in a positive way

  • Remember there is no perfect plan.

What there is is a decision that gives you a higher probability of solving the problem.

Be clear about the order of importance of the several solutions that exist.

See what can be improved and then refine, work on it.

6. Enjoy the process

Challenges are going to exist no matter the situation.

They don’t always have to be a grind, they don’t have to be painful.

They’re here to help you grow, they’re here to help you make progress.

They can lead to great things that can change your life for the better.
