When you’re alone, you learn how to spend time on your own. You enjoy your company and laugh at your own jokes. You take care of yourself, you make sure you stay healthy and content. You cut yourself some slack, you give yourself a gentle kick in the butt.
You learn how to regulate your emotions. You shower away the tensions. You take yourself out for a walk in the park when you’re lacking perspective. You buy yourself a falafel and a fresh carrot juice when it all feels hopeless.
You learn how to find solutions to your problems, make up for the things you’ve forgotten, fix the mistakes you’ve made. You call the plumber ‘cause a leak cannot be stopped with a piece of tape! ^^ You spank the bottoms of those jars and bottles until they pop open. You do what needs to be done. You get creative, you google things, you improvise. You forget to do your taxes cause this adult stuff does not make any sense.
You pay for the rent, the groceries, the bills, the restaurants, the trips. You do all the housework. The dishes, the laundry, the floor, the sheets. You take that bowl to the sink and get yourself a glass of water. You take care of things but mostly you take care of yourself.
You focus on the basics : food, exercice, connection, sleep. You do your best not to get sick ‘cause a fever and muscle aches might start an existential crisis. ^^ You do things at your own pace. You follow your heart and desires. You try not to take things at heart. You say no to what doesn’t make you feel aligned.
You allow yourself to be a mess sometimes. You put on your comfiest most unflattering pjs and go from the bed to the couch. Great thing is : you can cry as much as you want ! You can ignore the mess until you feel like tidying up. You can turn on the lights any time at night.
You can think. You think a lot. ^^ You listen to podcasts and read. You dive into things and let them sink in. You try to understand the workings of the human body and mind. You write your thoughts. You edit posts until the rhythm of the words is right.
You stretch like a starfish and stay like that as long as you want. You come up with ways to do life better. You find exciting things to add on your calendar. You ponder if you are going to give punch needle a chance although it sounds pretty violent. ^^
It can be pretty great when you’re all by yourself. It can be pretty hard as well. Sometimes it feels like it’s part of who you are. Sometimes there is a bit too much to handle and you’d just like someone to stroke your back.
Good thing is, you know you’ll always have your back.
