You might be extremely busy, you might have a demanding job,
own a business, have community commitments, or kids and parents to care for.
Or you might just feel like there is no time left, no time for what you want to do,
no time for the classes you want to attend, for all these places you want to go to.
You might think shaving bits of time here and there is the solution
but it won’t take you that far.
It won’t get you what you’re looking for :
the time you need to do what you want.
The solution is building the life you want, and then time will save itself.
You can’t make more of it but time is elastic, it can accomodate and stretch.
To build the life you want you need to figure out your priorities.
To do so, you can make a priority list.
Write down : self, relationships, career,
and then add two to three goals in each.
Looking back over your successes,
you can reflect on what were the things that made you grow.
On what you would like to do differently,
on what in your personal life really matters to you.
Once you have your goals, break them down into doable steps,
and most importantly, put them in your schedule first.
Treat them as you would treat an emergency,
but also think through several weeks in advance.
It might not be easy, it might even be difficult,
life can be overwhelming, it can be complicated.
But you get to choose how you spend every hour, minute, and second,
so strive for the things that will help you make progress.
Sure it is tempting to putter around the house, pull out your phone, or watch TV,
but then it’s not that you don’t have time to do … , it’s that it’s not a priority.
You can choose to read something on the bus, to meditate at work,
to listen to a podcast while you do the chores, and to work on your project.
There is time and you don’t even need that much to do great stuff,
you just need to be more throughtful, more intentional with the bits you have.
You need to look at the whole of your time and see where the good things can go.
You can build the life you want in the time you’ve got
if you focus on what matters the most.
